On Monday 30 October, 1961 Dr Martin Luther King spoke at Methodist Central Hall Westminster where he led one of his first UK talks on the subject of ‘Colour prejudice Must Go’.

The talk was one of many held within the Westminster area. Although King had visited the UK before he had never made a public appearance. 

The visit was attended by over 2,000 followers and became one of the most iconic events held at Central Hall Westminster. It has also welcomed many other best-known public figures through their doors – including Winnie Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi and Mikhail Gorbachev.
